Stratton Community Center

In 1956, a group of young men came together and formed the Cochér Car Club. Initially, the group enjoyed street racing, but decided it was not what they wanted to do as a group. So the club changed its purpose to helping out others. Military service, marriage, and family responsibilities caused the group to disband. In 1999, they regrouped and set out to provide support to the community. In the early days, the club would offer aid to travelers on the highways and freeways. The current mission of the Cochér Car Club is to assist and mentor youth and residents of the community.

Events the car club sponsors include; conducting annual raffles to fund club activities, i.e., the annual Youth Day at Adams Sports Park for thirty youth to ride karats, and are served breakfast and lunch. Additionally, the club takes groups of youth to boat races at Lake Elsinore. Support is also given to adult organizations such as Musicians in Action and Riverside African-American Historical Society through fundraising efforts. The car club has an active role in the annual Riverside Black History Parade where members proudly drive their classic and vintage cars in the parade. Under the direction of President Jerry Adams and his family, the annual Black History Car show is held before the parade each year, where club cars are on display. The car club meets the 2nd Saturday each month at the club house provided by Mr. Willie T, Jones III. The car club was named by Waudieur (Woodie) Rucker-Hughes, and the logo was created by Eddie Bereal.
